Here's what I've been working on for the past week or so. It is the digital rendering of what I hope my next relief print will look like. Unfortunately I can not get any further in the process because I am waiting on ink.
In relief printing (as with most other forms of printmaking), each color is printed from a different matrix. In this particular print, I will be using blue, yellow and black. I am hoping the yellow will be transparent enough to create a nice green when overlaid on top of the blue. I do not want to proceed in carving my blocks just in case it doesn't work as well as I would like.
In the meantime, I am posting this because I would like opinions and critiques on it. I work my images out digitally because it allows me to change things easily, whereas I can not change much once I start carving.
A big thanks goes to and for dropping by my livestream to chat and give critiques. Your suggestions and company really helped!
I'm also trying to keep up with the entire process on my blog: [link] If you're curious about relief printing, be sure to keep an eye out there for process photos (when I get my ink).
This looks awesome! The etching (?) is so detailed and descriptive. I love the parts the curve around the noses of the scouts. I just noticed there is no dark line around the light areas of the scouts, and it definitely adds so much depth to it.
Also, those pants look amazing.
Something that could look better is the peacock at their feet, if it were more defined. I didn't see it there at first. I don't really know how you'd do it... some sort of thicker outline?
Thanks! Sorry for the delay. I wanted to upload the edited file before replying. I went back in to see if I could make the peahen come out a little more. I tried using a white line instead of black, but that didn't work (the blue is too light). Then I tried making the black outline in the neck thicker. That helped a little. I don't know... Maybe it will just have to be hidden a little bit. It's not a driving element in the image, so if people notice it a little later, it might just be a pleasant surprise? Thanks again for the compliments and help! I'm looking forward to posting the final print instead of a digital rendering.
It's cool that people talk about my art.
Enough said.

Anyway, this looks awesome.
Somehow, he seems more clear to me, but it may be my imagination?
