Beauty Contest Relief Print by AmandaMyers Beauty Contest Relief Print by AmandaMyers
The Aardvark Scouts have returned!!!

Six months of work and this is what I have to show for it:A three block relief print cut out of Sintra, a PVC type material. There are parts of this print that I would have liked to have done differently, but believe me when I say: "I am ready to move on."

The image size is 28.5" x 18"
Paper size is 30"x 22.5"
Printed on Rives BFK with Graphic Chemical water-based inks (blue+white, yellow, and black)
edition size: 7 + 2 artist's proofs.
6 available to sell.

I feel like I should say more about this since I spent so much time on it, but I'm really at a loss for words right now. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

If you'd like to read a (very) detailed step-by-step description of how I made this print, check out my blog here: amandamyersart.blogspot.com/

Yeah, it took a while... I think in the future I will try to keep it a bit more simple. Truthfully, I really think I like black and white relief prints more than colored. It's rare for me to find a colored print that really grabs my attention. I think the only exception to that is Japanese style prints...I'd like to try doing that one day.

Hehe, I hope you get a chance to to! It's very time consuming, but can be worth it in the end.

This is so cool.
You are so patient, you know that?
The details are so awesome.
This is just so cool though. It likes some kind of weird, surreal dream world. I can't even describe it.
The colours look so great together.

LOL, Thank you. I'm only patient with certain things. For instance, I don't think I could ever do animation, despite both animation and printmaking are both very repetitive.

You're welcome. :)

Well, I didn't mean it in a way that was negative or anything. I really like the limited colors, I haven't seen something like that in a while.

I'm not familiar with these characters, but it's quite interesting how they're gathered 'round judging peacocks in what looks like a desert or wasteland. :P It's almost kind of funny!

Either way it's definitely eye catching. :)

Nah, I didn't take it in a negative way at all. I just find people's reactions to my art interesting, whether it be good or bad. It's good to know the humor comes across. I spent so much time looking at this, I can't really look at it objectively. Thank you so much for clarifying :D

Shamed am i, whose hands cannot express such life to make art as beautifully as thou

Hehe, I think they'd be more likely to steal your beer than to cut you (or anyone).

Thanks for the poetry :)

I really don't think many people can properly appreciate the time and skill you've put into making this print: since I am currently doing printmaking in my art class, I really understand how hard it is to get the exact details you want for your prints. Especially when you're doing three of time and combine them together--woah, I can only imagine...
Great work!

Thanks! I first started making prints in school and loved it! It's a labor of love that I find hard to explain. If people like or get curious about my work, it gives me an opportunity to explain the process. They may not fully understand the experience since they probably won't do it themselves, but at least they have some sort of idea.

The computer is a great tool for working prints out before committing to am image. Also, registration can be tricky, but if you set it up right in the beginning, it's usually not a huge problem.

No problem! Yeah, wood carving takes up a rather long time, and then there's the frustration when you accidentally carve more than you want... I really appreciate how you did all that! I could simply imagine...
Yeah, registration could be frustration too if multiple layers were applied, great job using the computer! I didn't even think of that. :P
